Coed Varsity Cross Country · Junior High Warriors show promising future for Cross Country!

The 7th-9th grade Warriors flexed their muscles at the junior high conference meet on Tuesday at their home course on Blueberry Pines Golf Course.  The boys team placed 6 in the top 10 and won the junior high meet for the first time in UNC history!  Leading the pack were Anthony Wurdock and Lars Keranen (2nd and 3rd place respectively).  Behind them were Brett Pinoniemi (5th), Blake Schoon (6th), Steven Koons (7th), and Wade Berttunen (10th). In all, 7 runners earned ribbons by placing in the top 20 spots.  The team scores ended up putting the Warriors in front by 26 points over second place Pine River.

The girls did some flexing of their own winning the meet for the 4th time in the past 4 years and having the individual champion for the 4th time in the past 4 years.  Alyssa Peterson and Annika Aho led the charge finishing nearly a minute ahead of the 3rd place runner.  Cierra Ahlf, running on a sick stomach, took 4th.  In all the UNC Lady Warriors placed 7 runners in the top 11 and had nearly half of all the ribbons handed out, earning 9 of the 20 places.

This meet ends the junior high season and many of these runners will now be gearing up for the Varsity conference meet which takes place next week at Blueberry Pines golf course.
